The Collection An esteemed panel of authors and educators joined us for the launch of the collection and a lively discussion about multiculturalism and children’s literature. And, thanks to the generous support of Macy’s, 660 collections, a total of 29,700 books, will be donated to RIF programs throughout the U.S. Soaring with Ikarus Jackson The group of fourth and fifth graders were sponsored by RIF and got a copy of Wings, the book on which the play is based and one of the 45 books in our Multicultural Book Collection. Wings is also a great story for discussing bullying with kids.

In celebration of Black History Month, we just released our 2011-12 Multicultural Book Collection. It features 45 children’s books for grades K-4. Each book will also have its own set of activities so kids can explore the books to their fullest.

RIF kids in Washington, D.C., saw a boy with wings soar this week at the Kennedy Center Production of The Wings of Ikarus Jackson. 
Kumon, the world’s largest after-school math and reading enrichment program, will donate $10 (equal to 4 new books) to RIF for each new enrollment in March. Mark your calendar and join us for a reading celebration at a Kumon open house near you on March 3.
