For the Young People What's a Picture Worth?
THANK YOU to everyone who supported RIF in 2011. In the month of December alone, thousands of you generously donated enough to give a book to 80,000 children!
In the midst of devastation and overwhelming odds, families and communities come together through the power of reading. 
Discover the joy at the family literacy celebrations we recently held in Kailua Kona, Hawaii and Joplin, Missouri. Both of these communities face unique challenges with Hawaii’s literacy rates amongst the lowest in the country and Joplin recovering from one of the most devastating storms in its history. Despite the odds, RIF is there to help.
Congratulations to Walter Dean Myers! This week he was named the new National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature by Library of Congress.
Myers, a five-time winner of the Coretta Scott King Award and recipient of two Newbery Honors, has chosen the platform "reading is not optional" for his ambassadorship, reflecting his belief that literacy is of primary importance to youth. Meet Walter.
Gerber Life Facebook fans across the country can upload a photo of their child into a mosaic on the Gerber Life Facebook Page and enter to win a $1,000 VISA gift card. For every photo uploaded, Gerber Life will donate $1 to RIF, up to $10,000. Promotion begins January 19.
